Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to pass my Theory Test before I start taking driving lessons?
No, but it's a good idea to start your studies for the Theory Test and apply them whilst learning to drive
Once I've passed my theory test, how long does the certificate last for? 2 years
Can Sundorne help me with my theory and Hazard Perception Test?
Yes - we can provide a CD ROM and coach you in any problem areas (either on your computer, or on ours)
My parents say they'll teach me, so why do I need lessons?
The standard you will be expected to reach has substantially changed since your parents took their test and professional tuition is the only way to realise this.
However, private tuition in addition to your lessons is invaluable - so your parents aren't out of a job!
Do you do a one-week intensive driving course - lots of companies are offering them?
No - extensive research has indicated that the pass rate for these intensive courses is extremely low. 6 hours a day, 5 days a week is not an ideal learning environment for everyone- we feel that your money would be better spent at a learning rate that suits you.
Remember - everyone learns at different speeds
How many lessons am I likely to need?
Everyone is different and factors such as age, learning ability, aptitude and attitude will affect this. The Driving Standards Agency are currently stating that those pupils who take on average 45 hours of professional lessons plus 'plenty' of additional practice stand the best chance of passing their test
How will I know when I'm ready for my test?
You will be ready for your test when you can competently perform all manoeuvres and drive safely in all types of traffic without the intervention of your instructor. Your instructor will conduct a mock test to help you decide
Why do so many people fail their driving test?
It's a stressful test and you need to be extremely well prepared. Most often they are just not ready
Who's car do I use for my driving test?
The same car that you have taken your lessons in
Will my instructor be a trainee-driving instructor (PDI)?
No - your Sundorne instructor is a fully qualified instructor (ADI). For your information, all qualified instructors MUST display a green badge with a hexagon logo. All trainees (PDI's) MUST display a pink/orange badge with a triangular logo
What is 'Pass Plus' and do you do it?
Yes - we offer 'Pass Plus'
This is a certificated course of further lessons which can be taken after you have passed your driving test, covering a variety of driving conditions, including motorways and countryside.
Many insurance companies recognise this course and offer substantially reduced insurance quotes
Can I start and finish my lesson at different locations?
Yes - we normally offer a door-to-door service.
However, if you would like to be dropped off elsewhere just let us know in advance
I'm very nervous - what if I don't like it?
It's really important to us that you feel comfortable with your instructor.
To allow you to road test us, and the driving experience, we offer your first 4 lessons at a reduced rate.
